Geolor is a retired high school Earth Science teacher and former Adjunct Assistant
Professor of Geology.
As an undergraduate, I majored in Biology, hoping to one day enter medical
school. This dream was abandoned when I married and began raising a family.
While raising 3 children, now grown, I went back to graduate school to
complete advanced degree programs and New York State Teaching Certifications
in: Biology, Earth Sciences, General Science, Foreign Languages, Elementary
and Secondary Education. My interest in science began as a child when
I began collecting rock and mineral specimens and my interest in dinosaurs
peeked to a point where, by age 8, I could name many along with their
estimated given length, weight and their place in geologic time.
When a child, I was taken every summer to either the mountains of Pennsylvania
or New Hampshire for a 2 week vacation away from the city. I believe it
was this "gift" that my parents gave me each year that instilled
in my soul a true love for rural environments and a desire to escape the
city and retreat to places more serene.
Returning to Grad school to pursue Geology as my career was one of the
best decisions that I could ever have made for it gave me the opportunity
to make science part of my everyday life. In addition, travel is further
enhanced and made more meaningful knowing what it is I am looking
at while visiting magnificent National Parks.
I was born and raised in New York. Family and friends were there and it
was the only life I ever knew. However, a restless spirit inside me and
ever present haunting memories of mountains and nature, uncluttered with
noise, traffic and crowds, promulgated a desire to one day live in a more
rural area of the United States. Colorado always remained deep in my soul
as one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen and so it became a
place of interest for relocation after retiring.
I worked very hard to make my dream of moving to Colorado come true. Upon
retiring from the New York State Teaching System in 2004, I sold my home
on Long Island and moved to a lovely community called Cañon City.
I see the Rockies from my front windows and hogbacks are my backyard.
People are friendly and even a drive to the food store, provides magnificent
mountain views.
I enjoy spending time with friends who have similar interests in nature,
the mountains, animals and the scenic wonders of this geologically beautiful
United States.
My interests include visiting United States National Parks to photograph
these landscapes. I also enjoy collecting mineral, rock and fossil specimens
from various locations.
I operate a Graphic and Web Page Design Colorado-based small business.
I enjoy designing original digital art computer graphics and photographing
magnificent geologic landscapes to use within my graphic suites.
I had the opportunity to work as a graphic designer for a local newspaper.
The experience not only gave me insight into what goes into a newspaper
from start to finish but also allowed me to use my graphic designing in
a totally different arena.
I am presently teaching Physical Geology for the Colorado Community Colleges
Online program. I plan to continue creating custom graphics and web pages
for clients. The rest of my time will be spent enjoying Colorado.
Geolor's
Exclusive Graphic Designs This is my domain devoted to graphic arts
and web page design. I feature original digital art custom graphic suites
that can be purchased as they appear or modified to suit a person's individual
needs and tastes. I also create custom designs from scratch, according
to a buyer's specifications. I truly enjoy creating these images for people
to use on personal and commercial web sites.
Geolor.com is the
main hub if my site and it branches off into areas dealing with environmental
concerns, major species extinctions, research I have done, an entire section
devoted to Photography, a Digital Art Gallery, Reflections (a series of
pages that combine prose with original graphics), Native American resources
and East African Rift Valley resources. Popular Sci-fi movies have been
researched as to the good
and bad science presented in the films and this series of postings
has become very popular on the Geolor.com domain. Links leading to Geoteach
and Geolor's Exclusive Designs also appear on the main Geolor page.
Geoteach.com is
my website devoted to Science Education and it is the most popular of
the 3 domains. Available are student assignments, lessons, labs, notes
and resources covering all areas of Earth Science and Geology. Originally
developed and designed with my own high school students in mind, the site
offers opportunities for student extra credit as well as resources that
teachers can use in their classroom. I strongly believe in integrating
computer technology and skills with the study of all high school subjects.
Many postings are suitable for college level as well. I illustrate many
Geoteach pages and this allows me to present diagrams and images my
way, in a clear and concise manner which is relevant to the specific
content that appears on each webpage document.
You will find specific underlying and recurring themes throughout both
my graphic designs and the topics I choose to address on my Geolor domain,
they being a love for nature, animals, Colorado and its mountains, tropical
places, science, dinosaurs and, in general, the magnificence of this dynamic
Earth we live on. You will also note in my work a respect and admiration
for Native American people and their culture.
By the way, one thing I love to prove is that geologists can be
feminine, even in the field!

for the opportunity to meet Mr.
